Need a COVID test in Middle Georgia? Here’s where you can schedule an appointment
New COVID-19 cases in Middle Georgia and across the state continue to decline, although the seven-day moving average of new cases remains higher right now that it was a year ago.
Healthcare and state officials have warned of a winter wave of cases as cold weather sends people in more confined spaces and impacts immune systems.
Coronavirus tests are available through the North Central Health District, hospitals, local pharmacies and quick care clinics. Retailers like Walgreens and CVC also sell self-tests that can be performed at home. Here’s where you can get a COVID-19 test in Middle Georgia.
North Central Health District
The North Central Health District offers COVID-19 tests in Baldwin, Hancock, Houston, Jasper and Macon-Bibb counties. Each site requires appointments and walk-ins/drive-ups are not allowed. The NCHD provides free testing through Mako Medical in all but Hancock County, where tests are done at the county health department.

CVS Health offers drive through rapid COVID-19 testing for people who qualify with limited appointments. Visit cvs.com/minuteclinic/clinic-locator/ga to find a location.
Walgreens offers free, contactless COVID-19 testing for people ages three and up. Kids ages 3-18 will need a parent or legal guardian present. Visit walgreens.com/findcare/covid19/testing to schedule.
Walmart has partnered with Quest Diagnostics to offer free molecular (eg, PCR) test for COVID-19.
Middle Georgia Labs is offering several different COVID-19 tests that are available within 24 hours. No appointment is needed and the lab accepts all insurance with no-out-of-pocket expense.
Mercer Medicine has an FDA-approved testing lab to provide COVID-19 tests with rapid results within 48 hours. Call 478-301-4111 to schedule a telehealth visit to determine if you should take a test.
