More than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last week in Middle Georgia

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 4,455 cumulative COVID-19 cases in Middle Georgia in its 3 p.m. update Wednesday.

Here are other key takeaways:

  • Cases: 3,206 (+1,249 reported since Wednesday, July 1).
  • Bibb County reported the most cases of COVID-19 in the Middle Georgia area with 1,482 (+560 reported since Wednesday, July 1). Bibb also has the most deaths with 41. On Wednesday, the health department reported the most new coronavirus cases in Bibb County in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic, with 136 new cases.

  • Deaths: 157 (+8 reported since Wednesday, July 1). It’s important to note that these numbers indicate when deaths are reported to the Georgia Department of Public Health. It does not reflect when these deaths occurred.
  • Cases per person: Baldwin County has the most cases per 100,000 with 1,377. Next in Middle Georgia is Macon County with 1,008. Jones County has the fewest with 430.
  • The health department is not reporting how many Georgians have recovered.
