Longtime Middle Georgia educator dies from COVID-19, family says

Former Perry Middle School Principal Thomas Moore died Monday from COVID-19, according to a tweet from his son.

Moore was the principal at Perry Middle for nearly 15 years before retiring after the 2016-2017 school year.

He was a Montgomery, Alabama, native and Auburn University graduate. Throughout his career, Moore was involved in sports at various schools throughout the area including Jones County in the late 1980s. He coached baseball, football and basketball.

From 1997 to 2001, he served as an assistant principal at Warner Robins High School. He had a stop in Macon County before coming to Perry Middle School.

After his retirement, he became the director of football operations for Perry High School in the fall of 2018.

His wife, Melanie Moore, is the current assistant principal at Houston County High School.

According to the latest update from the Georgia Department of Health, there have been 2,878 coronavirus-related deaths in the state of Georgia. In Houston County, there have been 25 deaths.
