For second day in a row, Bibb County reports record number of new COVID-19 cases

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 3,206 cumulative COVID-19 cases in Middle Georgia in its 3 p.m. update Wednesday.

  • Cases: 3,206 (+636 reported since Wednesday, June 24).
  • Bibb County reported the most cases of COVID-19 in the Middle Georgia area with 922. Bibb also has the most deaths with 40. On Tuesday, the health department reported the most new coronavirus cases in Bibb County in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic, with 73 new cases. Wednesday, Bibb County broke that record with 74 new cases. The previous single-day high was 71 new cases from April 15-16.

  • Deaths: 149 (+10 reported since Wednesday, June 17). It’s important to note that these numbers indicate when deaths are reported to the Georgia Department of Public Health. It does not reflect when these deaths occurred.
  • Cases per person: Baldwin County has the most cases per 100,000 with 1,163. Next in Middle Georgia is Macon County with 893. Jones County has the fewest with 269.
  • The health department is not reporting how many Georgians have recovered.
  • The spike in local cases led Macon leaders to cancel an Independence Day fireworks show over Lake Tobesofkee.
