Macon records largest single-day total of reported COVID-19 cases

Over the last 24 hours, Bibb County saw its largest spike in new COVID-19 cases with nearly 75 new cases reported.

According to the latest information from the Georgia Department of Health, 73 new cases were reported in Bibb County since 3 p.m. on Monday, with cumulative cases rising from 775 to 848. The previous single-day high was 71 new cases from April 15-16.

The spike in cases for Bibb County comes amid rising numbers across the state and around the country. The seven day average for newly reported cases in Georgia is around 2,000 cases per day, the highest to date, according to data analyzed by McClatchy.

Since the pandemic began, 39 Bibb County residents have died from COVID-19, according to the health department.

The Telegraph has reached out to Michael Hokanson with the North Central Health District for comment on the latest spike in cases for Bibb County.
