Georgia reports an increase of 2,225 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours
The Georgia Department of Public Health reported more than 77,000 cumulative COVID-19 cases Sunday.
Here are some key takeaways:
- Cases: 77,210 (+2,225 in 24 hours). That’s the largest increase in a 24-hour period to date. For seven straight days, Georgia has reported more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases. On six of those days, Georgia reported more than 1,700 new cases. McClatchy measures new cases by subtracting the total number of infections reported at 3 p.m. from the total number of infections reported the previous day at 3 p.m. This reflects when confirmed cases are reported to the state.
- Deaths: 2,778 (+2 deaths in 24 hours). It’s important to note that these numbers indicate when deaths are reported to the Georgia Department of Public Health. It does not reflect when these deaths occurred.
- Tests: 961,054. This number includes 154,116 antibody tests and 806,938 viral tests (+19,021 new viral tests in 24 hours). These totals don’t account for tests that are not reported through the state’s electronic lab reporting system.
- Cases per 100,000: Echols (4585.54), Chattahoochee (3758.49), Randolph (2916.79), Terrell (2657.38), Hancock (2563.16) and Early (2562.59) counties have the highest coronavirus rates per 100,000 people in the state.
- The health department is not reporting how many Georgians have recovered.
