The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 1,606 positive COVID-19 cases in Middle Georgia in its 1 p.m. update Saturday, up 69 cases in 24 hours.

Bibb County leads the area with 392 total cases, up 8 cases from 1 p.m. Friday.

The 1 p.m. Friday report had listed 16 deaths for Bibb County, but that was in error, said Michael Hokanson, public information officer for the North Central Health District. The correct count is 15, he said.

Houston County remained at 16 deaths, the most in Middle Georgia. The county had 314 total cases, up three in 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Monroe County had an increase of 48 cases in 24 hours that Hokanson attributed to results having come in of testing of residents at Pruitt Heath in Forsyth, a long-term health care facility.

Of the 94 total confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Monroe County as of 1 p.m. Saturday, Hokanson said he did not have an immediate breakdown of how many were residents of Pruitt Health in Forsyth.

State health officials have not provided a breakdown of the residents tested for COVID-19 in each county. The state is also not tracking the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19.
