Georgia reports over 13,600 confirmed cases, 480 deaths statewide. Here’s a breakdown

The Georgia Department of Public Health at 7 p.m. Monday confirmed 13,621 cases of COVID-19 in the state, up by 316 from the last update at noon Monday.

Statewide, 480 people have now died from the novel coronavirus, an increase of 18 confirmed deaths since noon.

The Georgia Public Health Laboratory and private labs have conducted a total of 57,006 COVID-19 tests. The state has processed 3,750 tests. Private labs have processed 53,256 state officials said.

The state health department reports 2,702 people have been hospitalized due to the virus.

State health officials have not provided a breakdown of the residents tested for COVID-19 in each county. The state is also not tracking the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19.

For 560 cases, the state is reporting the counties as “unknown.” The person may be homeless or medical professionals may not have entered the person’s county of residence into the state’s electronic database, health officials have previously said.

The DPH is also reporting that 496 non-Georgia residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The number of confirmed cases is expected to continue increasing with each update as testing capacity in Georgia expands, the DPH said in a press release last week.

On Monday afternoon, Georgia’s top health official Dr. Kathleen Toomey said a more inclusive testing strategy will be implemented at health departments after acknowledging previous guidelines likely made it too difficult for Georgians to get tested for the novel coronavirus.
