Peach County has its first death as a result of COVID-19
The noon release from the Georgia Department of Health on Sunday revealed the first death in Peach County as a result of the new coronavirus. According to the list, it was a 29-year-old Peach County woman who died from the COVID-19. Peach County has a total of 6 cases.
The total number of cases rises in Middle Georgia
In the noon release, revealed two new Middle Georgia cases both coming out of Houston County. Houston County has the most cases in Middle Georgia with 15 and has the only other death outside of Peach County. The total number of cases in Middle Georgia has now reached 59.
Mercer University School of Engineering Releases Design Files on Surgical Mask Prototype
Mercer University School of Engineering faculty and students have been working to design reusable 3D-printed face masks for medical professionals in locations where supplies like protective mask are running low. Following a successful fit test, Mercer plans to to continue fabricating masks to distribute to medical facilities and healthcare practitioners. The goal is to provide an alternative for healthcare workers until FDA-approved personal protective equipment is available.
The state of Georgia sees a rise in cases overnight
There were 205 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the noon update from an overnight with just one additional death. There are now over 2,650 cases in the state of Georgia according to the latest update. A new update will be released at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
President Trump approves major disaster declaration for all 159 Georgia counties
Governor Brian P. Kemp announced on Sunday that President Donald Trump has declared a major disaster for all 159 Georgia counties due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This will allow for federal aid to be used for impacts related to the new coronavirus.
“Georgia is grateful for this designation, as it will enable the state to continue partnering with federal agencies in a coordinated fight against this pandemic,” Kemp said in the release. “The presidential declaration is a critical step in providing additional assistance to our state and local governments as they continue to respond to COVID-19.”
