Mercer grad student tests positive for coronavirus, university says
A Mercer University graduate student has tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Atlanta, university officials said in a release Friday evening.
The student attended classes at the university’s Macon campus and was in “satisfactory condition” at their home in Atlanta before their positive test results came back, Mercer officials said.
The student was last on campus March 13, and they lived in an off-campus apartment. Two of the student’s roommates and another student who had close contact with the sick person have been notified of the confirmed COVID-19 tests results, university officials said.
All three are graduate students and are showing no symptoms. They are quarantined off campus until April 2, university officials said.
“The University is working with local public health officials to identify any other contacts who may have been exposed while the affected student was infectious. For privacy reasons, no further details can be shared at this time,” said Mercer spokesperson Kyle Sears in a statement.
