Georgia reporting more than 2,100 coronavirus cases, 64 deaths. Here’s a breakdown by county
The Georgia Department of Public Health at 7 p.m. Friday confirmed 2,198 cases of COVID-19 in the state, up by 197 from noon.
Statewide, 65 people have now died from the novel coronavirus, an increase of only one since noon.
The state saw its biggest jump in a single reporting period to date in the noon update Friday — an increase of 358 cases from 7 p.m. Thursday.
The state originally did not include any testing numbers in its 7 p.m. update, but they appeared around 7:30 p.m. The Georgia Public Health Laboratory and private labs had conducted a total of 9,865 COVID-19 tests. The state has tested 1,746 people. Private labs have tested 8,119 state officials said.
The state health department reports 607 people have been hospitalized due to the virus.
State health officials have not provided a breakdown of the residents tested for COVID-19 in each county. The state is also not tracking the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19.
The state is reporting the counties for 178 of these cases as unknown. The county of a confirmed COVID-19 case is listed as “unknown” by the state if county data is not provided. The person may be homeless or medical professionals may not have entered the person’s county of residence into the state’s electronic database, health officials previously said.
