Georgia surpasses 1,000 coronavirus cases, 30 deaths. Here’s a breakdown by county.

The Georgia Department of Public Health at 7 p.m. Tuesday confirmed 1,097 cases of COVID-19 in the state, up by 71 since noon.

Thirty-eight people have now died from the novel coronavirus in Georgia. Six new deaths were reported since noon on Tuesday.

The Georgia Public Health Laboratory and private labs have conducted a total of 5,484 COVID-19 tests as of 7 p.m. March 24. The state has tested 1,378 people. Private labs have tested 4,106, state officials said.

The case updates from Georgia now also contain data about the number of people hospitalized in the state with the coronavirus. As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, that count was 361.

When asked to provide a breakdown of the residents tested for COVID-19 in each county, the state was unable to provide that data. The state is also not tracking the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19, state health officials said.

The state is reporting the counties for 79 of these cases as unknown. The county of a confirmed COVID-19 case is listed as “unknown” by the state if county data is not provided. The person may be homeless or medical professionals may not have entered the person’s county of residence into the state’s electronic database, health officials previously said.
