Georgia reports 800 coronavirus cases and 26 deaths. Here’s a breakdown by county.

The Georgia Department of Public Health at 7 p.m. Monday confirmed 800 cases of COVID-19 in the state, up by 28 from noon. One new death was reported. Twenty-six people have died from the novel coronavirus in Georgia.

Nancy Nydam, spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Public Health, said in an email that the state is not tracking the number of people who have recovered from the coronavirus because “determining the number of individuals who recover from COVID-19 is too dynamic to be accurately captured and relied upon.”

The Georgia Public Health Laboratory and private labs have conducted a total of 5,069 COVID-19 tests as of 7 p.m. March 23. The state has tested 1,245 people. Private labs have tested 3,824, state officials said.

When asked to provide a breakdown of the residents tested for COVID-19 in each county, Nydam said the state was unable to provide that data.

The state is reporting the counties for 46 of these cases as unknown. A confirmed COVID-19 case is listed as “unknown” by the state if county data is not provided. The person may be homeless or medical professionals may not have entered the person’s county of residence into the state’s electronic database, Nydam said.

As of noon Monday, Georgia has the ninth most confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S., behind states such as New York, Florida and Louisiana.
