Macon GEICO employee tests positive for coronavirus, company says

A Macon-based GEICO employee has tested positive for the new coronavirus, a company spokesperson told the Telegraph on Thursday.

According to a release from the company, GEICO learned an employee at the Macon location tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon. The employee has been released from the hospital and is home recovering.

This is the first confirmed case out of the Macon office. GEICO has transitioned tens of thousands of employees to working from home within the past week, including more than 6,000 employees at the Macon location.

The Macon buildings will be thoroughly sanitized according to the recommended guidelines, GEICO said. The company added that it wishes its employee a speedy recovering and is taking preventative measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 45 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Middle Georgia counties as of noon Friday.
