The North Central Health District confirmed two cases of COVID-19 Thursday morning: one in Macon-Bibb County and one in Peach County.

The resident of Macon-Bibb is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. They have no travel history, so the source of their exposure is currently unknown.

The other confirmed positive is a resident of Peach County. The individual is currently hospitalized, and also has no travel history.

Both individuals are patients at Navicent Health’s Medical Center in Macon.

“We can confirm that each patient is being well cared for and – for the safety of other patients, visitors and staff – were isolated upon presenting for care,” Navicent said in a release. “Strict measures have been put in place to ensure that patients receiving care at Navicent health are not at increased risk of contracting COVID-19.”

The NCHD said it is working to figure out how the two people were exposed to the new coronavirus.

“NCHD is working to identify the sources of exposure and any contacts that may have been exposed while the individuals were infectious,” the district said in a release. “People identified as having been potentially exposed will be contacted directly by a public health epidemiologist and monitored for respiratory symptoms.”

The cases follow the first one in Middle Georiga, a Houston County health care worker.
