Amazon plans to hire 200 people in Macon as online ordering surges during coronavirus
Amazon plans to add more than 1,500 jobs in Georgia, of which 200 will be in Macon, to help meet the surge in demand for products during the coronavirus pandemic.
Amazon announced Tuesday it will be opening 100,000 new full and part-time positions across the United States in their fulfillment centers and delivery network, according to a news release.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Amazon and our network of partners are helping communities around the world in a way that very few can—delivering critical supplies directly to the doorsteps of people who need them,” read the release.
Courtney Norman, public relations specialist for Amazon Operations, said in an email that Amazon is working with healthcare professionals and taking precautions to protect employees from the new coronavirus.
“The safety of our employees is always our top priority, and we have measures in place to ensure they are protected and supported during this time,” she said in the email.
The jobs available in Macon are seasonal, but she said some of those employees could move into long-term roles.
People who are interested in applying for a job can visit www.amazon.com/jobsnow. Interested candidates should check back frequently as Amazon updates its job website, and people can sign up for texts and email alerts, Norman said.
