Grocery store chains across the country have adjusted their hours amid the coronavirus pandemic, but Kroger stores in three southern states say they aren’t limiting hours and are actually hiring more workers to stock shelves.

Kroger’s Atlanta division, which includes South Carolina, Georgia and eastern Alabama, won’t reduce operating hours, the company said.

Workers in industries “hit hard” by the coronavirus are encouraged to apply for jobs at Kroger, according to the company.

Walmart, Publix, Wegmans, Trader Joe’s and other grocery chains have said they are limiting hours so workers can disinfect stores and restock shelves after buyers rush to get items like toilet paper and sanitizing wipes.

Kroger has said some of its stores are adjusting hours “based on local circumstances” in Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas and other states.

Harris Teeter, which is owned by Kroger, is also adjusting store hours.

Kroger encouraged customers not to panic and emphasized that the “supply chain is strong.”

“We are working hard to replenish shelves as quickly as possible to ensure that the food, medicine and cleaning supplies our customers need are reaching our stores as quickly as possible and are available through our pickup, delivery and ship services,” the company said.
