How long have you been in business?: “I have been business for four years, and it actually got started in Hawaii. I am a military wife. I’ve just always had a passion for photography. I’ve taken classes since I was in high school. I had a dark room at the time, and I just loved developing film. ... It’s just something I’ve loved. My dad was into photography, and he was always about documenting life. … I think I’ve just inherited that. … I feel I want to give that to people and try to document their lives.

“I started out a little bit as a hobbyist … and then when I realized how much I actually liked being a business owner, I took it more seriously and applied for my business license. I took classes in Colorado and hired a business mentor to help me with the business stuff. ... Everything is digital now. I would love to go back into film.”

What do you like best about your job?: “I like getting to know my clients and feeling like I’ve somehow been involved in a little bit of their lives, especially for my wedding clients. To be there and document their day is my favorite. When the mothers and dads are in tears, I just love it. I’m crying with them.”

What is your specialty?: “It is probably more weddings and portraits. … I’m more a portrait photographer.”

What are your future plans?: “This year I’m trying really hard to focus on the corporate world and real estate photography. I’m working with other small businesses and doing head shots for their team and trying to bring them professional head shots. I’ve worked with a couple of (real estate agents), and every time they list a house, they have me photograph the house and they use it to list the house. It’s something I’ve been working on. ... Also, I’m doing a little bit more studio work.”
