How long have you been in business?: “I worked for Morris Appliance for about 15 years, doing service work, and when (the owner) decided to close up the store in January 2014, I approached him about keeping the Morris name because that name was really well known in Macon and the surrounding areas, and I didn’t want to give up that name. People didn’t know me per se, but they knew that name. So I just went into business for myself. ... I didn’t skip a beat. I got off on Friday from the store and started Monday all by myself.

“When I first started, I opened up my own accounts and do warranty work for Frigidaire and Whirlpool, and I do warranty work for two extended warranty companies. … I do a lot of warranty work … and I do cash on delivery calls also.”

He does service work in about a 25-mile radius, from Gray and Forsyth to Perry and Fort Valley.

What do you like best about your job?: “I like being my own boss. I like the freedom of being able to schedule calls how I want to schedule them. … I enjoy very much working for myself. ... I enjoyed the work and getting out and meeting new people (while at Morris Appliance). … I knew I didn’t want to give up that. I enjoy the appliance work itself. There is always something new, and I’m always up for a good challenge.”

What is your specialty?: “I do work on washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves. … No water heaters, no window air conditioners. … I only work on major appliances. … I try to be honest with customers and let them know if it’s going to be too much, it’s not worth it. I don’t want to fix something that in two or three months there will be a problem. You can buy a new one and get a warranty.”

What are your future plans?: “I do plan to grow bigger. … I know I can’t do this by myself for the rest of my life.”
