Gentry hired as new livestock director in Perry

Philip Gentry has been tapped as new the new livestock director.

The Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority hired Philip Gentry Jr. as the next agricultural/youth director for the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter. Gentry will replace James Floyd who will retire July 1.

Gentry was born and raised in Houston County and has been an agriculture education instructor at Perry High School since 2006. During his tenure there, he has helped advance the success of Perry High’s FFA program. Gentry is also the owner/operator of Rising G Cattle, a beef cattle seed stock operation. Gentry earned a bachelor of science degree in agriculture education from the University of Georgia.

Spherion owner Chalmers earns national recognition

Spherion Staffing Services, a recruiting, staffing and workforce solutions provide in Byron, recently honored franchise owner Michael Chalmers with the company’s prestigious Best of Blue Award. Chalmers received the award, which recognizes individuals and offices that demonstrated significant sales and revenue growth in the previous year, at the annual Spherion Performance Forum conference earlier this month.

In 2015, Chalmers and his staffing team expanded combined revenue by nearly 55 percent within Spherion’s Middle Georgia and Huntsville, Alabama offices.

A former Spherion employee, Chalmers assumed ownership of the Middle Georgia branch in 2010.
