First Kumho Tire supplier in Macon announced
The first supplier in Macon for Kumho Tire will be a warehouse employing four people to start.
An announcement emailed Sunday by the Macon Economic Development Commission said CJ Korea Express will occupy 33,000 square feet in Ocmulgee East Industrial Park. The warehouse will coordinate receiving and shipping of rubber for the new plant, which is currently in a testing phase before it goes to full production.
CJ Korea Express is part of the CJ Group, a $23 billion conglomerate involved with food, food services, entertainment, media, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, logistics and retail. CJ Korea Express is a $5.6 billion company that does contract logistics, parcel delivery, freight forwarding and maritime business globally.
"This is the first Kumho Tire supplier we have located in Macon," said Starr Purdue, chairman of the Macon Economic Development Commission, in the release. "We hope to see additional suppliers as Kumho's production increases."
Kumho Tire is currently in preliminary testing in its facility in Sofkee Industrial Park.
