Estate sale business turns up first edition books, rare coins, jewelry
Beverly Baggarly, co-owner of Two Southern Peaches Pickin' in the South With Two Yankee Boys Just Diggin' It Out LLC, 3154 Vineville Ave., Macon. Other co-owners are her sister, Susan Oliver, and a friend, Paul Jones-Peel.
How long have you been in business?: Baggarly and Oliver have been doing estate sale work for about eight years operating out of Baggarly's antique store, The Spotted Pony which she opened in 2003.
"People started asking if I would do an estate sale for them. It started off with friends and family, and it has grown by word of mouth. ,,, We've been doing estate sales just as individuals and got referrals through the antique shop. ... And this year we formed an LLC with my sister and Paul."
The sales are done on weekends. Baggarly works full time at SunTrust Bank, Oliver and her husband own a automotive shop on Broadway in Macon and Jones-Peel is in college.
The name of the business refers to Baggarly and Oliver as the "Southern Peaches" and Jones-Peel and another man who helps them, as the "Yankee Boys."
What do you like best about your job?: "I love the people and finding the treasures that have sometimes been buried in a house or attic. It's amazing some of the things that you find to sell for the homeowner or the executor or whoever. ... You'll find a lot of first edition books, coins, jewelry. Every now and then we will find a rare piece of porcelain or glassware. ... We get a lot of enjoyment out of this."
What is your specialty?: "We meet with the homeowner first and do a preview of the home and belongings to see if it's something we feel like we can do to help them. ... We display everything in the house. We price everything and then we advertise it on different sites and conduct the sale."
They also do auctions and business liquidations.
What are your future plans?: "Just hopefully booking more estate sales and trying to do at least one a month."
