Rezoning request for a 100-unit apartment complex for seniors off Thomaston Road in Macon is expected to be considered by zoning office
Macon zoning officials on Monday are expected to consider plans for a 100-unit apartment development near Thomaston Road.
DHB Development Inc. of Valdosta wants to rezone about 12 acres at 4193 Cavalier Drive, just off Thomaston Road near Interstate 475, from an industrial and general commercial district to a multi-family residential district.
The project is expected to be considered during Monday's meeting of the Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning Commission.
Less than a month ago, the commission approved plans for a 168-unit apartment complex that would be built at 6369 Thomaston Road.
The apartments on Cavalier Drive would be developed for senior housing and would include four two-and-three-story buildings, according to the commission's staff report. Also, it would include a community center, playground, gazebo, covered pavilion and 203 parking spaces.
"While the proposed multi-family residential rezoning is not incompatible with the existing land uses currently surrounding the site, it should be noted that the 2040 Future Land Use Plan envisions future additional development in this area as commercial and light industrial," the staff report said. "Those uses will be given favorable consideration in future applications on neighboring sites."
In another matter, Primex Properties LLC has requested conditional-use permits for three Bojangles fast food restaurants. They would be at 788-794/808 Gray Highway, 4190 Pio Nono Ave. and 2772 Riverside Drive.
Existing buildings on each of the properties would be demolished to make way for the restaurants, the staff report said.
Primex would build a 3,808-square-foot building on each site, and each one would employ 35 to 45 workers.
The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room of the Willie C. Hill Government Center Annex, 682 Cherry St.
