Free document shredding will be offered in Macon to help prevent identity theft
Anyone who wants to get rid of old documents safely, will have an opportunity to do so, and it's free.
The Better Business Bureau is offering Secure Your ID Day, 10 a.m.-noon, April 16 at the Wal-Mart, 5955 Zebulon Road, according to a news release.
Residents and small businesses are encouraged to attend the event and take a step in identity protection by shredding and properly disposing of sensitive paper documents. The BBB staff also will be on-site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.
"Properly destroying documents that carry information you don't want getting into the hands of crooks is an important first step to fighting identity theft," Kelvin Collins, president/CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Central Georgia & the CSRA, said in the release.
People may bring up to three boxes or bags of documents to be shredded. Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders, but staples and paper clips are okay to be shredded.
