Ocmulgee Brewpub to open in downtown Macon
A brewpub is expected to appear in Macon for the first time in 10 years.
Ocmulgee Brewpub will open at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 484 Second St. with an "unveiling event," according to a news release. During the event, Georgia craft beers and artisan style pub food will be served.
"We will curate the best brews, gourmet burgers, super food salads and hand cut fries in town," the release said.
Ocmulgee Brewpub, uses the tag line "Where the water boils up" referring to the Ocmulgee River which "has been the lifeblood of this area" for thousands of years, the release said. "Ocmulgee Brewpub selects only the finest grains, hops, yeast, and Macon water (best tasting in the country) to form their brews."
The brewpub will focus on highlighting the active lifestyle and environment surrounding the Ocmulgee River.
Although the release touts the business as Middle Georgia's first brewpub, the Texas Cattle Co, which was a fixture on Riverside Drive for almost 20 years before it closed in 2006, had a brewery. But when the Texas Cattle Co. was revived on Houston Road in 2009, it did not include a brewery.
Ocmulgee Brewpub is owned by Jeff Kressin, who owns Just Tap'd originally named Lazy Dog Growler which opened in 2014 at 488 First St. in Macon. He opened the Warner Robins business a year earlier at 3123 Watson Blvd. Suite 200.
