Dollar General may be built at Riverside Drive, Ingleside Avenue in Macon
A new Dollar General store may be headed to Riverside Drive near Hutchings College and Career Academy.
The discount retailer has filed a conditional-use application with the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission to allow the store at 2010 Riverside Drive at the intersection of Ingleside Avenue.
Plans call for the demolition of the existing vacant restaurant that was originally built for Shoney's. A new 9,100-square-foot Dollar General would be built on the 1.38-acre site, according to a report by the applicant, SW North Macon LLC. The property is zoned for commercial use.
The proposed building would be constructed of brick on four sides with parapets on the sides fronting Riverside Drive and Ingleside Avenue.
The store is expected to bring 10-12 jobs and would be a neighborhood general store that serves the nearby community.
The application is on the agenda for Monday's commission meeting, which begins at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill Government Center Annex, 682 Cherry St.
