Consumers should beware of phone calls from people claiming to be Georgia Power employees trying to collect payment for bills.
The callers also are threatening to disconnect the service, according to a news release from the Georgia Public Service Commission.
Consumers should be aware that Georgia Power does not ask for personal or financial information such as credit card, debit card, bank information or Social Security numbers over the phone.
These callers have often targeted senior citizens in these utility scams.
