Goodwill to open a Last Chance store and new donation center in Macon

Goodwill Industries is planning to open a Last Chance retail store and a new donation location with a drive-thru window on Forsyth Road in Macon.

Renovation of the nearly 17,000-square-foot space is underway now at 4650 Forsyth Road -- the former location of Tuesday Morning, which moved last fall to Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard.

"The main reason we are opening it is to have an uber-convenient location for that whole population in that Forsyth Road area to be able to have a donation drive-thru," said Jim Stiff, president/CEO of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia.

The donation center will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. every day.

Also, there will be a Last Chance store at that location, which will be open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. The store will be restocked every Monday and Tuesday with 10,000-plus fresh items "where no garment is over $1.25 and prices drop every day," Stiff said.

Typically, goods not sold at Goodwill are bundled and recycled, but since the reduced price of salvage provides less revenue for Goodwill's mission, the Last Chance stores help fill the gap. Goodwill now has Last Chance stores in Warner Robins and Martinez.

About seven new positions will be created to fill and operate the donation center and outlet store.

The new location is expected to open in late April.
