Middle Georgia job seekers can get help at job readiness event
People who want help finding jobs or starting new careers will have an opportunity to get assistance this week.
The Georgia Department of Labor is offering Middle Georgia residents free professional employment-related services in Gray on Feb. 10.
A job readiness event, designed to help people with their job search, especially in manufacturing and logistics, will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce, 161 West Clinton St. in Gray.
The event will include hands-on workshops on how to search for jobs, write and critique resumes, develop interviewing skills and how to network with employers, especially those in manufacturing and logistics.
Representatives will be on site to discuss several employment-related programs, including on-the-job training, U.S. Trade Adjustment Assistance and apprenticeships.
On the job training allows participants to earn and learn while developing occupational skills and earning a paycheck. Trade adjustment assistance is a federal program that assists U.S. workers who have lost or may lose their jobs as a result of foreign trade.
Apprenticeship programs offer participants a salary while learning the skills necessary to succeed in high-demand careers. In addition to paychecks and a potential career, other benefits include hands-on-career training, formal education and national industry certification.
Participants are encouraged to bring their resume, work history, educational background and a list of job skills to the event.

The event is sponsored by the labor department, Central Georgia Technical College, Jones County Keeping Up with Business and Jones County High School.
