Milledgeville hospital hires CFO

Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville announced that it has hired Michael Vaughn as the interim chief financial officer. Vaughn has an extensive background with hospital systems in Texas, Alabama and Tennessee.

Vaughn is an experienced financial health care consultant who has extensive experience including budgeting, business planning, consolidations, mergers and acquisitions and due diligence. Most recently, Vaughn was CFO at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas.

Local cotton farmer recognized for high yields

Scott Moore, an Elko farmer, was honored recently for making the highest yield in the Southeast region with the new Deltapine cotton variety DP 1646 B2XF. He won a trophy for averaging 1,984 pounds per acre with the new variety. By comparison, the projected average cotton yield in 2015 for the state of Georgia was 951 pounds per acre, according to the USDA-NASS Crop Production Report issued in September.

MWA captures awards for excellence

The Macon Water Authority has been the recipient of several industry awards recently.

During its fall conference, the Georgia Association of Water Professionals recognized the MWA with the 2015 Collection System Platinum Award. This honor is awarded only to sewer systems that have attained a grade of 95 percent or higher on annual peer reviews of the system for five consecutive years. The MWA scored 98.9 this year.

In addition, the MWA's Amerson Water Treatment Plant Laboratory received the GAWP Certificate of Distinguished Merit for quality assurance. This certificate was given to the MWA for having one of the best water quality laboratories in the state, within the large system category, serving more than 100,000 people.

The MWA finance department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 18th consecutive year. This award reflects the quality of the authority's comprehensive annual financial report, as judged by the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada.

The GFOA also recognized the MWA with the award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, which the MWA has published the past three years.

Malone re-elected to board

James Malone of Dexter was recently re-elected to a two-year term representing the Georgia Farm Bureau's 6th district on the organization's state board of directors.

Malone's district includes Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Dodge, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Laurens, Montgomery, Telfair, Treutlen, Twiggs, Washington, Wheeler and Wilkinson counties. James Emory Tate of Jeff Davis County also serves as a GFB director for the district.

Malone is a diversified row crop farmer and grows timber. He has been an active member of the Laurens County Farm Bureau since 1975 and has held numerous leadership positions, including president since 1993. Malone is a board member of the Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority.

Perry selects Canine Clubhouse as December business

The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce business development committee selected Canine Clubhouse in Perry as the recipient of the Business of the Month award for December. Canine Clubhouse is owned by Alyssa Madon and located at 204 Kellwood Drive in Perry.
