Belk to offer free mammograms in mobile center at Macon and Milledgeville stores

The Belk department stores in Macon and Milledgeville will provide free mammograms next week in its mobile mammography center.

The 39-foot, state of the art screening center on wheels will be at The Shoppes at River Crossing store in Macon on Tuesday and at the Milledgeville Mall in Milledgeville on Thursday, and according to a news release. Screenings will be available 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. at each location.

Free screenings will be available to women 40 and older with no breast concerns, who have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months and who have a primary care physician. Anyone interested must call 855-655-2662 to schedule an appointment.

All screening exams are performed by Charlotte Radiology's licensed, female mammography-certified technologists. A board-certified radiologist, specialized in breast imaging will interpret the mammogram, and confidential results will be sent to the patient and her primary care physician, the release stated.

During the past two years on the road, the mobile unit has performed more than 7,400 mammograms throughout the Southeast that resulted in 30 cancer diagnoses.
