A medical office offering a new kind of urgent care plans to open Monday in Macon.
Your Doctor's Immediate Care office is at 2410 Ingleside Ave. at the intersection with Corbin Avenue, said Steve Barry, the CEO of Georgia Physicians for Accountable Care, which owns 60 percent of the new medical office along with other individual physicians. The facility occupies about half of the 9,400-square-foot building.
In some ways the medical office is similar to a traditional urgent care facility. It will treat ailments such as cuts, burns, flu, colds or broken bones when patients can't get an appointment with their doctor right away, or it's after hours, Barry said.
"I think it's easier to say what would not be handled there," he said. "If you have a gunshot wound or were in a severe, traumatic car wreck or you're having a heart attack or a stroke, you need to be at the (emergency room).
"Your Doctor's Immediate Care is different from your run-of-the-mill urgent care center. Although the services are the same, it is run as a primary care office as an extension of your doctor's office."
When patients go to this immediate care office, records of their treatment will be sent the same day to the patient's primary care physician for follow up care if needed. Also, the insurance co-pay and deductible would be the same as if the patient went to his or her primary care doctor, not the higher rates normally charged by urgent care facilities.
Your Doctor's Immediate Care is not affiliated with any hospital, he said.
Initially the office is expected to be open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Depending on demand, the office may open earlier and stay open later, Barry said. For more information, go to www.yourdoctorsimmediatecare.com.
