Himangshu named secretary-treasurer of organization
Sumitra Himangshu, assistant professor of education at Middle Georgia State University, has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Southeastern Association for Science Teacher Education.
Himangshu holds master of science degrees in zoology from Auburn University and biology from the University of Rochester.
She earned a doctorate from the University of Rochester.Georgia Farm Bureau has promoted five key administrative leaders.
Corporate treasurer/secretary Wayne Daniel has been promoted to chief operating officer.
Daniel has worked with GFB since 1977.
Daniel has served five GFB presidents, overseeing the organization's financial and administrative matters.
GFB assistant treasurer David Jolley was promoted to chief financial officer and corporate treasurer.
Jolley, a certified public accountant, has worked in the GFB Mutual Insurance Co. accounting department since 2002.
Jon Huffmaster was promoted from legislative director and assistant corporate secretary to chief administrative officer and corporate secretary.
Huffmaster, a native of Fulton County, has worked with GFB for 34 years.
Jeffrey Harvey was promoted to director of the Georgia Farm Bureau legislative department. He succeeds Huffmaster.
Harvey has worked in the GFB legislative department since 2001 and has been the assistant legislative director since 2005.
Harvey will oversee GFB's efforts to promote laws favorable to agriculture.
GFB national affairs specialist Tas Smith was promoted to assistant legislative director, filling the position previously held by Harvey.
Smith will continue to be responsible for national affairs, working with members of Georgia's U.S. congressional delegation.Kathryn Palmer has been selected as a Geico regional personal injury manager.
Palmer started her career in 2003 as a management intern. She has completed the supervisory preparation program and spent time working through all levels of claims.The Peyton Anderson Foundation announced the appointment of U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell as a member of the foundation's board of trustees. Also vice chairman Wyatt Thomas Johnson retired from the foundation's board of trustees effective Oct. 5.
Treadwell is a graduate of Valdosta State University and Mercer University School of Law.
He has served as an adjunct professor at Mercer and a recognized expert in evidence law in Georgia.
After 25 years of successful private practice in Macon, he was appointed to the federal bench in 2010.
Other members of the foundation's board are R. Kirby Godsey, Ed Sell III, Kathryn Dennis and Karen Lambert.
