Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning approves kennel for north Bibb County

Macon-Bibb County zoning commissioners approved a permit Monday for an animal boarding facility in north Bibb County.

It was the second time the applicant, Larry Hulsey, had sought a conditional-use permit from the Planning & Zoning Commission to allow a one-story dog kennel on about six acres at 1409 Tucker Road, near the intersection with Peake Road. The facility would accommodate a maximum of 20 dogs.

Residents near the site had raised questions about the project, particularly the noise level from barking once dogs are at the kennel.

At Monday’s meeting, Hulsey provided more information about the proposed building, telling commissioners that all exterior walls would be finished with soundproof insulation, and that sound panels would be put throughout the interior to help absorb noise.

In another request, commissioners also approved a conditional-use permit for a proposed medical office at 5300 Bowman Road.

Steven Rowland, with Rowland Engineering Inc., applied for the permit.

The application sought to revise a site plan to build a 36,000-square-foot, single-story medical office. The building would have 78 exam rooms and other offices, waiting areas and storage areas. The site would have 215 parking spaces.
