Pet kennel planned on Tucker Road to be considered by Macon’s zoning board
An application for an animal boarding facility housing up to 20 dogs on Tucker Road is expected to be considered by Macon zoning officials Monday.
Applicant Larry Hulsey is seeking a conditional-use permit to allow the kennel at 1409 Tucker Road near the intersection with Peake Road. Stratford Academy is adjacent to the rear of the nearly 6-acre site, which is zoned agricultural.
A 1,500-square-foot single-family residence currently on the property would be demolished, according to the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission’s staff report. Hulsey plans to build a one-story, 2,868-square-foot “pre-fabricated metal building with insulated sound proofing materials.” The sides and rear of the building will be enclosed by a fenced dog run area.
A proposed parking lot would be built to hold about eight vehicles.
The business would offer extended boarding and optional grooming for boarded animals. Grooming would not be available to the general public.
The hours of operation would be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Pickup on Saturday and Sunday “would be rare,” the staff report stated.
The planning and zoning commission meets at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill Government Center Annex, 682 Cherry St.
