BBB offers free document shredding event in Macon
If you’ve got lots of sensitive documents to shred, mark your calendar for Oct. 3.
That’s Secure Your ID Day, sponsored by the Better Business Bureau. Residents and small businesses may bring up to three boxes or bags of paper documents for free shredding from 10 a.m.-noon that day at the Wal-Mart store, 5955 Zebulon Road, according to a release.
Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders, but staples and paper clips are OK.
The BBB staff will also be on site to provide advice and tips for identity theft protection.
“Properly destroying documents that carry information you don’t want getting into the hands of crooks is an important first step to fighting identity theft, but it doesn’t end there,” Kelvin Collins, president/CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Central Georgia & the CSRA, said in the release. “That’s why BBB experts will also be on hand offering important advice and simple steps everyone can take to prevent ID theft in their daily lives, both online and off.”
