Ron Shipman named to lead Georgia Power’s operations in Middle Georgia

Georgia Power announced late Tuesday a new leader for the company’s Middle Georgia region, which includes Macon, Dublin, Hawkinsville, Milledgeville, Perry and Vidalia.

Ron Shipman, who has worked with Georgia Power since 1984 in a variety of roles, has been named vice president of the company’s Central Region, according to a news release. In his new role, Shipman will lead Georgia Power’s operations for 165,000 customers in a 26-county area.

“Ron’s diverse experiences across so many areas of the company give him a unique understanding of Georgia Power’s position in the communities we serve,” Craig Barrs, executive vice president of customer service and operations for Georgia Power, said in the release.

Shipman’s previous positions with Georgia Power were in nuclear chemistry, environmental affairs, legislative affairs, area management and distribution management. In his most recent position as vice president of environmental affairs for Georgia Power, Shipman directed the company’s environmental compliance and stewardship programs.

A graduate of the Morehouse College with a bachelor’s in Biology, Shipman also earned MBA from Shorter College.
