Amanda Edge, owner of The Edge Effect, a grooming shop, 525 Mount Zion Road, Bonaire, 542-4650.

How long have you been in business?: She has been in business for herself for four years.

“I worked for my mom for 21 years and then I branched off and opened a shop at my home. ... I wanted to downsize and I needed a change. But I still love my animals, so I didn’t want to change into another career.”

What do you like best about your job?: “I like several things. I just like the different personalities of the pets. I like to cut hair, and I like that most my customers do not talk back to me.

“It’s not something you do just for the money; you really have to like the animals.”

What is your specialty?: “I have a lot of poodles and schnauzers. ... I do grooming, nails, ears, baths ... and some medicated bath treatments and de-shedding treatments.

And before their humans pick them up, the animals get a bow or bandana to wear home.

What are your future plans?: At this time, Edge doesn’t have any plans to expand.
