Dunkin' Donuts, Which Wich restaurants should open by end of month in downtown Macon

By the end of the month, people should be able to dunk a doughnut at Dunkin’ Donuts and chose a sandwich at Which Wich in downtown Macon.

“If I can get everything done, I plan to open both of them by the end of September,” said Lou Patel, owner of the franchises under D&D Middle Georgia LLC. “I need to get everybody hired and trained.”

The restaurants -- which are in one building with separate entrances -- are at 860 Forsyth St., across Pine Street from the Medical Center, Navicent Health. The Dunkin’ Donuts is in about 2,400 square feet of space, and the Which Wich is in about 1,600 square feet.

Patel has hired two managers and expects to hire a total of 60 people for the two restaurants. But he is waiting to get the store “completely done, so we can have interviews there,” he said.

The equipment for the doughnut shop was being installed Tuesday, and equipment for the sandwich shop should go in in a couple of weeks.

“Then in about three weeks we will have training,” Patel said.

The Dunkin’ Donuts is expected to be open 5 a.m.-midnight, and the Which Wich is expected to be open 10 a.m.-midnight, both seven days a week. The doughnut shop will have a drive-thru.

The building is on the former site of the Douglass House and Tremont Baptist Church, both of which were torn down late last year to make way for the restaurants. Patel is using stained-glass windows saved from the church in both restaurants. Also, a plaque has been made to note the historic church, and he plans to recognize the Douglass House in some way, but the details have not been worked out yet.
