Burlington Stores expects to move into its new digs at Macon Mall next month.
Six months ago, Burlington announced it was moving two miles down Eisenhower Parkway -- from Westgate Mall on Pio Nono Avenue where it has been a fixture since 1988 -- to Macon Mall.
The new store is expected to open at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 25, according to a news release. As part of its grand opening celebration, the first 500 customers 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 26 will receive a free Burlington tote and there will be gift card giveaways, face painting and popcorn.
The national off-price retailer, also known as Burlington Coat Factory, is relocating to about 69,500 square feet on the upper level of the mall at 3661 Eisenhower Parkway in space formerly occupied by Sears. The mall’s Sears store closed in early 2012.
The new store will have 75 employees, which includes workers who will transfer from the existing store and new hires, said Clare Buse, a company spokeswoman with M Booth & Associates, a New York public relations firm. However, Buse declined to disclose how many new jobs were created.
“We are transferring all our associates from the existing location to the new location,” Buse said in an email.
She also declined to say when the existing store would close.
Based in Burlington, New Jersey, the department store carries clothing, furniture, accessories, home decor and gifts. It has 545 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico.
The store will be the last large retailer to leave Westgate Mall which opened in 1961 as Georgia’s first enclosed mall.
