Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal to speak at United Way kickoff in Macon

United Way of Central Georgia 2015 campaign will kick off during a luncheon next week in Macon. It will feature Sandra Deal, wife of Gov. Nathan Deal, as the guest speaker.

The event will begin at 12:15 p.m., Sept. 1 at the Mercer University Hawkins Arena, 1730 Adams St., according to a news release. The event is open to the public and tickets are $15 per person or $150 for a table of 10. Reservations should be made by Wednesday online at www.unitedwaycg.org/kickoff.

“First Lady Sandra Deal’s lifelong dedication to early childhood education and her commitment to increasing the percentage of children reading at grade level by the completion of third grade made her an ideal choice as our guest speaker,” United Way President/CEO George McCanless said in the release.

United Way of Central Georgia’s Read2Succeed initiative focuses on the importance of early childhood development and grade level reading.
