Krispy Kreme celebrates its 89th birthday with special deal
Krispy Kreme turns 89 years old this week and the popular doughnut chain is celebrating by offering customers a deal on its most iconic menu item.
On Friday, July 17, customers can score a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 89 cents with the purchase of any dozen at regular price at participating U.S. shops, the company said in a July 14 news release. There is a limit of two dozen per customer in-shop and via the drive-thru, and one dozen for online pickup and delivery orders.
"Every Krispy Kreme birthday is really a celebration of our fans," said Alison Holder, Krispy Kreme's chief brand and product officer, in the news release. "Offering Original Glazed dozens for just 89 cents is our way of saying thank you to the guests who make Krispy Kreme part of their celebrations, traditions and everyday sweet moments."
The company's story began in 1937 when founder Vernon Rudolph opened the first location in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Krispy Kreme says curious passersby began asking Rudolph if they could buy hot doughnuts directly from the bakery, which led to Rudolph cutting a hole in an exterior wall and serving fresh Original Glazed doughnuts right from the sidewalk.
Krispy Kreme unveils Girl Scout Cookie-inspired doughnuts
Krispy Kreme's newest flavor inspiration comes from Girl Scout Cookies.
The doughnut and coffeehouse chain has a trio of new doughnuts inspired by Girl Scout Cookies, available now for a limited time, at participating shops nationwide.
The doughnuts, available individually and by the dozen, are "perfect for sharing with friends, bringing to the office, or simply treating yourself," according to the company's news release.
"Girl Scout Cookie flavors are iconic for a reason," Holder said in a statement. "Reimagining them as doughnuts is a fun way to bring those familiar favorites to fans in a completely new and truly irresistible way."
The doughnuts' arrival may satisfy cookie lovers' hankering for the annual sweets, as it's the offseason for Girl Scout Cookies, which are typically sold from January to April - though local drop times vary by troop.
The new limited-time Girl Scout Cookie Inspired Dozen includes these three recruits:
- Coconut Caramel Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut dipped in chocolate icing and topped with coconut and caramel (inspired by Samoas and Caramel deLite cookies).
- Thin Mints Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut dipped in chocolate icing, topped with Thin Mints cookie crumbles and dark chocolate chips and drizzled with mint green icing.
- Lemon-Ups Doughnut: An unglazed shell doughnut filled with Lemon Crisp Kreme filling, dipped in lemon-flavored icing and finished with a bright, lemon-inspired design.
