Ford Mustang Owners Barely Drive Their Cars, New Study Shows
For as long as the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Corvette have been around, the single most important reason people have been buying them for was the driving experience. Regardless of the generation and model year, the driving experience offered by the Corvette and the Mustang is the main thing that brings people into showrooms.
Still, that doesn't mean Mustang and Corvette owners drive their cars everywhere; the opposite is true, actually. A survey from iSeeCars.com has shown that sports cars and convertibles are the least-driven gas vehicles, with the Mustang and the Corvette topping the list of vehicles that get the least amount of driving in a year.
Sports Cars Dominate Top 10 List Of Least-Driven Gas Vehicles
The analysis, which looked at odometer readings from more than 2.1 million three-year-old cars sold in 2025 to calculate the average annual miles driven by drivetrain and model, has found the Ford Mustang to be the least driven gas vehicle. Mustangs typically cover just 2,092 miles a year, almost ten times less than the most-driven gas vehicle, the Chrysler Pacifica (20,872 miles per year).
The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class takes second place in the least-driven gas vehicles list, with an average yearly mileage of 3,176 miles. The third spot goes to the Porsche 911 (Coupe and Convertible combined), with an average of 3,850 miles per year. As for the Chevy Corvette, it comes in fourth with 4,394 miles per year (Coupe+Convertible).
Interestingly, not even an affordable, fuel-efficient sports car like the Mazda MX-5 Miata doesn't get driven that much. The study found it to cover just 5,945 miles per year (6th place), followed by the BMW Z4 with 6,533 miles per year (7th).
These results paint a clear yet kind of sad picture: people don't drive sports cars that much. While sports cars are expected to be among the least-driven gas cars, the fact that they dominate the Top 10 list-only two models are not sports cars in the iSeeCars.com ranking-speaks volumes about driver
There are many reasons for this, from ever-rising gas prices to big fines for speeding, the lack of fun roads in many places, lack of practicality for longer drives, and more. The study concludes that sports cars and convertibles are frequently used as recreational, seasonal, or secondary vehicles rather than everyday transportation.
What About Other Powertrain Types?
If you're curious about the opposite side of the spectrum, the Top 10 most-driven gas vehicles is dominated by minivans and big SUVs-family vehicles essentially. The Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager take the top two places with 20,872 yearly miles and 20,549 yearly miles, respectively, while the Chevy Suburban is third with 19,626 miles. On average, gas vehicles cover 13,323 miles a year.
But if we're talking all powertrain types, conventional hybrids are driven the most among all vehicles in the survey, averaging 14,696 miles a year. The most-driven conventional hybrid vehicle model is the Toyota Sienna minivan with 17,368 yearly miles.
As for plug-in hybrids, the annual average of all vehicles surveyed is 11,660 miles. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid tops the list of most-driven plug-in hybrid vehicle models with 18,985 miles a year.
Interestingly, when it comes to battery-electric vehicles, the annual average across all models is very close to plug-in hybrids-11,880 miles a year. The Tesla Model 3 tops the chart with 13,579 miles a year, followed closely by the Model Y with 13,538 miles.
