Plans are underway to relocate the Bearfoot Tavern from its spot on Cherry Street to a new location on Second Street.
“We have kind of outgrown the space,” said Cesare Mammarella, owner of the HotPlates Restaurant Group, which includes the Bearfoot Tavern, Tic Toc Room, Ginger Stir-Fry & Grill, Brasserie Circa, Yabu Sushi and Emerson Ballroom, all in Macon.
The new, expanded Bearfoot Tavern will be at 468 Second St. in a building Mammarella owns. New features will include a larger draft beer selection, brick oven pizza, a tweaked menu and a large beer garden in the rear of the building.
“It won’t be considerably larger -- it’s about 30 percent more,” Mammarella said. “But the bar will be three times as big.”
Construction work began on the space about three weeks ago, and the plan is to open in late November or early December, he said. The beer garden wouldn’t open until next spring.
The staff will probably double for a total of 20 to 25, and Mammarella expects to begin hiring more workers by the end of October. Applicants may apply at any of the HotPlates restaurants.
