Milledgeville’s The Brick to open restaurant in Macon
The Brick, an established, popular restaurant in Milledgeville for more than 20 years, is opening in Macon.
The eatery is expected to open in late July at the Lofts at College Hill, the mixed-use retail and loft development under construction behind the College Street post office, according to a news release from the College Hill Alliance.
The Brick’s Macon restaurant will be 5,200 square feet and have an outdoor patio. It will be one of the largest independently owned restaurants in Macon, with the capacity to seat more than 200 customers, the release stated.
Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, The Brick will feature a full bar, offer live music and will be open until 2 a.m. on weekends and until midnight during the week. The fare includes wings, sandwiches, pasta and pizza.
Owner Frank Pendergast said Macon was a natural choice for the restaurant’s first expansion. He and late business partner Mitch Brooks conceived the idea for the original restaurant when they were in Macon. They sketched it out on the back of a napkin in a Riverside Drive sports bar, the release stated.
“We wanted our restaurant to have an appeal that catered to the college crowd and the locals,” Pendergast said. “And here we are, 21 years later, returning back to our roots in Macon to do the same thing.”
It was the student appeal and demand from the College Hill Corridor that attracted Pendergast to the Lofts at College Hill.
Sierra Development President Jim Daws, developer of the loft project, said there was heavy demand for The Brick before it broke ground on the latest property.
“We went after The Brick from the beginning,” Daws said in the release. “I’ve enjoyed their restaurant in Milledgeville for years.”
Then when the College Hill Alliance surveyed students about businesses they wanted in College Hill, The Brick continued to come up.
“It will be great for Macon,” Daws said.
This is the second restaurant to occupy the first floor retail space. Boba Mocha, a specialty coffee, tea and snack shop, announced plans to join the development at its groundbreaking last July.
