PetSmart to open new store at River Crossing in north Bibb County

PetSmart, which first came to Macon 19 years ago, is planning a new store at The Shoppes at River Crossing in north Bibb County.

The pet food and supply store is slated to open in spring 2015 at 5080 Riverside Drive, Suite 601, said Sandra Acosta, grand opening marketing manager for the Phoenix, Arizona-based company.

“It will be equipped with full grooming and a training center,” Acosta said.

The 12,430-square-foot store would have between 15 and 20 employees. This is the company’s medium-sized store, Acosta said.

The company “is not closing (the existing Macon PetSmart) at this time,” she said.

The existing 20,100-square-foot PetSmart at 4551 Billy Williamson Drive, between Eisenhower Parkway and Mercer University Drive, opened in November 2006.

The first PetSmart in Macon opened at Westgate Center on Pio Nono in November 1995.
