Mammograms made easy? New Macon imaging center is catering to women’s convenience
A new Macon imaging center is making mammograms and women’s health a priority with convenience.
Women’s Imaging Specialists opened in July and offers 3D screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasound, general ultrasound and bone density scans.
Many women postpone their annual mammograms due to three primary concerns: fear, cost, and time, according to Megan Croff, director of business development.
“Our top priority is to provide individualized care to every patient, keeping these three things in mind,” said Croff.
Croff said all facilities are designed with a calm, spa-like atmosphere to help patients feel more relaxed and less anxious about their exam. She also said financial concerns should not prevent anyone from getting necessary care, so the center tries to make cost less of an obstacle.
Croff said time is also an obstacle when juggling a busy life so the center offers online scheduling and online paperwork to help expedite the check-in process.
“We recognize that for most women, life is busy. Families, careers, and extracurricular activities can easily consume most of the day so we offer same-day and walk-in availability,” she said. “The average screening mammogram takes just 15 minutes.”
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women worldwide. It is also one of the most treatable cancers when detected early, according to Croff.
She said having an annual screening mammogram is crucial for identifying breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage.
“Our goal is to help women prioritize their health by partnering with local physicians and making breast care easily accessible to everyone in the Macon community,” Croff said.
In addition to its services, Women’s Imaging Specialists participates in community events and raises breast cancer awareness all year long. October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, is its busiest month.
Croff said this year, the center will offer 3D screening mammograms for a self-pay cost of $149 for the entire month of October. It also designs a Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirt every October that is sold at its facilities. Croff said 100% of the money collected is donated to local non-profit organizations. Over $10,000 was raised last year.
Many women think because they have no family history or genetic predisposition, they don’t need to worry about having an annual mammogram, which is not true, Croff said.
“Less than 10% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have a close family history. Don’t put off your screening mammogram,” she said. “It’s 15 minutes, and it could save your life.”
Women’s Imaging Specialists is at 455 Plum St., Suite 100 in Macon and can be reached at 478-300-6551.
