Michael and Monique Huffman are crazy about comics - so much so that the couple worked as a comic convention-based business for more than a decade.
But the long-term dream was always to open a comic store. That dream came true in 2019 when Fanboy Collectibles & Comics was born.
The comic store offers something to interest almost any fan of pop culture. It carries comics, graphic novels, toys, board games, card games, video games and systems, and other collectible items.
Monique Huffman said that while the store is meant to be “all fun and games,” there is also an important message that the business has for the community.
“We advocate for literacy in the community and support several of the charitable organizations in the Macon area,” she said. “We love being able to introduce readers of all ages to something new, whether it is a new character or a new type of story.”
“We feel that reading comics and graphic novels is a great way to bring families together as readers,” Monique Huffman said.
The business has also worked with the Ronald McDonald House Charities and several other local charities.
Monique Huffman said going forward, Fanboy Collectibles & Comics will continue to look for more occasions to reach out and provide residents with a safe and accepting place to be part of the pop culture community in Macon.
“We, and our employees, really love what we do and we enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with our customers,” she said.
The business hosts the Middle Georgia Con, a convention based around bringing comics and pop culture to the Middle Georgia area. It took place in January this year.
The next in-store event will be Free Comic Book Day-May the Fourth, celebrating Star Wars fandom and the comics industry on Saturday, May 4.
“We will have special guests and a selection of free comic books will be available to our customers,” Huffman said.
Fanboy Collectibles & Comics is located at 2390 Ingleside Ave. in Macon and can be reached at 478-238-4128.
