Living Local: Macon family-owned restaurant loves serving the community
Editor’s Note: This story is part of Living Local, a regular series featuring a look inside local businesses — the things they make, services they provide and their impact on the community.
Biddy’s in Macon is all about two things: serving mouth-watering chicken, and community.
Owner Ethan Henning opened the chicken restaurant in November 2020 after moving to the area with his wife and small children. Henning said he grew up in the restaurant business and has always loved keeping it southern.
“I have always loved that southern quick service chicken wing and tender spot,” he said. “A protein-forward fast food option that is consistent, fast and fresh.”
The restaurant offers chicken tenders, wings, fried and grilled salads, wraps and sandwiches, and more.
Henning said original breading and sauces are always made in-store daily.
“I love our style of food and am always thinking of ways to improve on what we are doing currently,” he said.
Popular menu items include the Biddy’s pimento BLT, hot hen fries, bangin’ shrimp plate and the cheese steak salad.
But the food is not all Biddy’s is serving up. Henning said part of his passion in running the restaurant comes from being able to serve his community and helping to keep the economy local.
“I would like to think we are good stewards and neighbors. We are always open to feeding local teams, nurses, first responders and others who serve,” he said. “We also strive to keep a consistent and positive work environment that provides opportunities to those who work hard.”
“I am personally very proud of the positions we have been able to provide and look forward to doubling down on that in the future,” Henning added.
The restaurant owner also regularly gives to local organizations and is currently looking to do more.
“We are actively looking for local groups that may have a need to be filled and how we can collaborate with those groups and organizations to do some fundraising,” he said. “We love to be hands-on with our service and give back to our community.”
Henning added that he and his wife moved to Macon in 2020. The couple has small children making it even more important for them to find ways to contribute locally in a positive way.
“We love our Mercer crowd and would like to do more work with local high schools, organizations, and other agencies,” he said. “Our doors are always open. If someone knows of any local groups invested in helping make Macon even better, we would love to participate.”
