After support from the Macon community, this restaurant is ready to change locations
After less than a year open, Keene’s Kafe in west Macon-Bibb County is moving to a new location.
Keene’s Kafe, at 6369 Thomaston Road, announced on Facebook that they are limiting their hours in order to prepare for the move into their “very own location.” The restaurant did not release any information about the location other than another post later on Tuesday that they are not leaving Macon.
“Please be patient with us as staff and certain menu items will be limited during this process, and it is quite the task for me and Stephanie,” read the post. “Thank you #Macon for making our dream of providing you the best biscuits and burgers a reality.”
The restaurant also didn’t announce a time frame for the move, but they are no longer serving dinner and will be closed on Saturdays until the move is complete. Keene’s Kafe originally opened in February and serves unique steakburgers and loaded biscuits.
The Middle Georgia community rallied behind the restaurant when the owner, Jonathan Keene, announced in an emotional video on Facebook in July that his restaurant was robbed.
“In the process, they stole everything I had as far as money and opened my freezer and my fridge and wasted all my food,” Keene said, in a previous Telegraph article. “Then they took the surveillance DVRs, so there’s no footage, nothing.”
At the time, it was only five months after the restaurant opened, and Keene said he was living day to day with no savings.
The community rallied around Keene, a GoFundMe was created, and other restaurants donated food and paper goods in order for Keene to get back on his feet.
“I really thought that my dream was over, but because of the community and local business owners and all of you guys... as of right now, we will be open tomorrow,” Keene said in a Facebook video. “That means that the criminals that tried to do something evil didn’t win.”
Two months later, the restaurant announced its ready to move to another location. The restaurant needs breakfast and lunch sales in order to help them successfully move, according to the Facebook post.
“So if your hungry, stop by and see Neshia, she will be there to feed you some good food!” read the post.
